  • The game that changed the series for the better.

    Conclusion
Last year, I really thought Tiburon did a lot to improve the Madden series, but that was nothing compared to what they did this year. 2004 was about big, in your face features that everyone could acknowledge. This year, it's more about subtle gameplay issues, fixes that you might not even realize if you only play a few games, but to the hardcore Madden fan, these are changes that are a long time coming. The defensive improvements alone are worth the price of admission, but when you add to that the expanded franchise mode, you realize just how different this year's game not only looks but feels.

    Presentation (9/10)
The newspapers and PDA system are brilliant ways to keep track of your franchise. If only there was a Sportscenter show or its equivalent.
    Graphics (9/10)
Improved player models, from the shoulder pads to the uniform matching cleats are a nice touch, and the PC version looks the best by far.
    Sound (7/10)
Tony Bruno's radio show is a kick to listen to, even if Al and John aren't.
    Gameplay (9.5/10)
There are two D's in the word Madden for a reason. This might just be the smartest sports game ever shipped.
    Lasting Appeal (10/10)
Franchise, online, and an All-Madden mode that's actually a challenge. This game could have a lifespan longer than Ricky Williams careeru00bfwithout all the smoke.

  • Conclusion
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault is still one of my favorite action games. And while Breakthrough is a bit more ambitious than last year's Spearhead, it still feels like little more than a change of locale for the series. Sure, that's the bare minimum you'd expect from an expansion pack. That it preserves Medal of Honor's engaging cinematic approach, the occasional squad support sequences and the overall polish the series is known for makes it a sure thing for fans of the first game.Still, it doesn't add that much to the series beyond a dozen extra missions. For hardcore Medal of Honor fans like myself, this will suffice. Those of you who are merely casual fans of the game may find the new multiplayer elements to be a sufficient draw, but they hardly advance the title beyond what we experienced in Spearhead.

    Presentation (8/10)
Short and sweet. A few performance problems arise here and there but it seems more stable than Spearhead.
    Graphics (8/10)
The engine's showing its age but a few new tricks have been thrown in to make the experience seem a little fresh.
    Sound (9/10)
The franchise always scores high here thanks to great voice acting and spot-on sound effects.
    Gameplay (8/10)
Over too soon but worth the journey. The fighting sequences offer a good bit of variety.
    Lasting Appeal (7.5/10)
Did I mention it's short? A few new multiplayer options give it legs but, given the current craze for WWII shooters, there are definitely other options.
