    Palit GTX1070 Game Rock Review

There is nothing quite like a new graphics card to get us all staring at our bank balance and monthly budgets to see if we can find a way to squeeze some money out to enable us to enjoy the performance that we can see obtained in reviews. For most of us, unless we're particularly well-heeled, your graphics card is always the most expensive component in your system and thus the most painful to have to replace. Sadly, or at least sadly for our wallets, it is also the single biggest upgrade you can have in terms of being able to obviously see the fruits of your expense. On the assumption that by now we're all running SSDs as our main drive anyway.

Palit have long been champions of this affordable end of the market. It might seem pejorative to use words such as affordable or budget-conscious, but for the vast majority of enthusiasts the biggest limiting factor is unquestionably finance, and PCs are both hellaciously expensive and the technological turnover and improvements so fast that by the time you've managed to save up for a planned upgrade the market has moved on and you need to save up even further. By producing graphics cards at the affordable end Palit open up the door to new hardware to the masses.

The consistency of the latest Pascal GPU from nVidia is such that, in general, all of the cards are very closely matched. Yes the Gainward Phoenix stands clear and only strengthens that position the more cards we test, but even the Palit, which found itself at the bottom end of the GTX 1070s with the nVidia Founders Edition, has more than enough performance to give owners of anything below a GTX 980 Ti a great gaming rig for an modest price. With an expected retail price of below the Founders Edition, matching it for performance ends up more impressive.

Although we might not be too keen on either the name or the typeface, both looking a little cheap for our tastes, the decision to go with a white and blue shroud certainly ensures that the Game Rock manages to grab your attention and, if white and blue is your colour scheme of choice, there is nothing else on the market quite like it.

With good performance, quiet operation, and an nice affordable price tag the Palit GTX 1070 Game Rock wins our OC3D Gamers Choice award.
