    Conclusion
If you're going to buy a Sony phone, make it this one. The Xperia Z5 is the best phone Sony has ever produced and it's up there as one of the better Android phones on the market right now. After the abomination that was the Xperia Z3+, it would have been easy for the company to slip out of the market it was already struggling in. It might have just given up and walked out to sea if it had a similar experience here. It's still expensive, and that's an issue. I can't help but feel if Sony dropped the price a further £50 on both this and the Xperia Z5 Compact, we'd see much better sales for their line of phones. In the end, the Z5 isn't as perfect as it should be, but it does have all the right parts.Read our hands-on review of the Xperia Z5 Compact

    Slutsats

Fem gånger har Sony försökt lansera ett
    flaggskepp tillhörande den växande
    Android-baserade Z-serien.
    priser.

  • Sony Xperia Z5 review: Flagship foibles

    Plus

    • Great design and finish
    • Good camera performance
    • Fingerprint scanner

    Minus

    • Can get hot
    • Software slow
    • Battery life isn't as good as it was in older devices

Conclusion For all the posturing of the Sony Xperia Z5, there is something that's incremental about it. The design has progressed a tiny amount and for the most part we like it, but it's not a dramatic move like we've seen from Samsung, so will likely be perceived as much of the same. The Z5's hardware doesn't change hugely from the previous Z3+ either, so some of the experience is similar (and not always to its benefit). But the real problem for us is that this Sony flagship seems to have lots its potency in some areas. The battery life isn't what it used to be, and while it will easily outlast the Samsung Galaxy S6 or the HTC One M9, it feels like Sony's grip has loosened. As we motor forward to a time when Android is getting more sophisticated through Marshmallow, Samsung has refined TouchWiz, HTC is shaking up Sense, and it's Sony's software that's the Z5's biggest weakness. It's a little bit sluggish and that makes its additions not worth having. The camera story is interesting, though, and a spotlight feature where the Sony Z5 stands out. But is it the best camera in a smartphone? No, because the experience is hampered, and for all the clever technology, sometimes you just want to get down to the business of taking good photos with minimal fuss. All things considered and the Sony Xperia Z5 is a step forward over the Xperia Z3+, one that we'd happily recommend to Sony fans looking for an upgrade. But it lacks the panachewe're seeing elsewhere in Android, which makes us a little bit sad in wondering what could have been.

Conclusion There's no doubt that the Xperia Z5 is a solid flagship smartphone from Sony and an improvement on the Z3+. We certainly like the new frosted glass rear cover and the addition of a fingerprint scanner in that slim power button. The camera isn't great compared to the best phone cameras out there though, and you can get a better phone for similar money. The price has dropped, and it's now a decent-value waterproof flagship with a Micro-SD card slot. However, you can't use it underwater, and there are newer rivals which are better value, take better photos and have better performance.
