    Conclusion
The main issue I have with the Sony Xperia Z2 is there's nothing to really get excited about. It's a great all rounder, but there's no curve ball to keep things interesting. The Z2 is definitely more attractive since the price has come down, increasing the difference between it and the Z3.The Samsung Galaxy S5 has its amazing screen, heart monitor and fingerprint scanner while the HTC One M8 has a superb design, Boomsound and the Duo Camera setup. Yet the Xperia Z2 has no headlining feature which makes it stand out.Its premium design nudges it ahead of the Galaxy S5, while its highly capable camera beats the One M8 hands down. If you're looking for an all round top performer at a lower price point (4K video issues aside) the Xperia Z2 is a great jack of all trades. Just don't expect it to do anything out of the ordinary.First reviewed: April 2014

ConclusionSony’s Xperia Z2 is a genuine contender in the competitive smartphone market. Sony’s hallmarks are all there — the solid camera, excellent screen and refined software. Years of refinement has led to a product where the basics are spot on, and then there’s its competitive advantage: its waterproof credentials.

    Conclusion
Overall, the Sony Xperia Z2's camera is very capable for a mobile phone camera with some obvious limitations. Although it is billed as having a compact like camera on board thanks to the larger than average (for a phone) sensor and Sony G lens, it's pretty safe to say that dedicated cameras can still outshine the performance of the Z2.

  • Sony Xperia Z2 Smartphone Review

Conclusion Using the Sony Xperia Z2 has shown me that Sony is in a class of its own with Android-powered smartphones. Sure, everyone has a different opinion on what is great out there, but with so many overwhelmingly positive reviews on the two best-selling smartphones on the market - Samsung's Galaxy S5 and the iPhone 5S - there is plenty of room for another champion.  Sony not only steps up to the podium with the Z2, but it pushes the Galaxy S5 and iPhone 5S to the side, making them stumble just that little bit. Sure, Sony won't hit the same sales numbers as Samsung and Apple, but it doesn't need to. Sony is making money with its various other divisions, including the incredibly powerful PlayStation brand. If you're after a new Android-powered smartphone, you owe it to yourself to check out the Xperia Z2. I can nearly promise you that you won't walk away disappointed. It has excellent battery life, a gorgeous screen, a truly beautiful design, and some internal hardware that will keep you going for the entire day, without breaking a sweat. That's all without taking into consideration the kick-ass 20.7-megapixel 4K-capable rear-facing camera. Sony has crafted itself an amazing handset that deserves to be fighting against the Galaxy S5, iPhone 5S, LG's G3 and HTC's One M8.

Conclusion Although not much has changed from the Xperia Z1, the Xperia Z2 is another solid effort from Sony. The smartphone is a good all-rounder with a great screen, camera, build quality and performance. We just wish it wasn't quite so bulky.

    Sony Xperia Z2 review

    Plus

    • Plenty of power
    • Solid battery life
    • Premium build and looks
    • Good camera performance
    • Waterproofing

    Minus

    • Size
    • Colour saturation excess
    • Uncomfortable to hold
    • Sony bloat software
    • Vibration alert is over the top

Conclusion The Sony Xperia Z2 has the same design downfall that the Z1 did: this is a big device and it's less comfortable to hold than its rivals. That's something we feel detracts from the day-to-day experience because a smaller body design could have housed the same 5.2-inch screen in a more user friendly way. However, Sony has opted for best-in-class waterproofing and a premium build that easily beats the plastics of Samsung's Galaxy S5, but can't better the metal body and curves of the HTC One M8.There's power aplenty and the Z2 feels like it handles this better than the Z1. Despite the size of the display and the power on board, the battery life is respectable and with sensible use of Sony's Stamina mode and power saving options, it will happily see you through the day.The camera experience offers plenty too, including those future-proof features like 4K capture being available for when you buy into that new Ultra HD telly.Overall the Sony Xperia Z2 is a definite step forward for the series. It might be an incremental upgrade rather than a device overhaul, but it delivers in the areas that matter, making for a package that's highly desirable and ultra powerful.
