    Conclusion
Would we recommend the HTC One Mini? Absolutely - the mid-range market renaissance is something we didn't expect, but is an area that HTC is intent on winning - and we think it's managed that with the One Mini.We really love the aluminium shell, the UltraPixel camera and BoomSound on board, plus we get to play with the latest version of Android as well as all the cool apps like the Music Player, which show lyrics to songs as they're playing. Actually, we're just happy to have the headphone-boosting amplifier on board - as long as our songs are nicely audible, we don't really care. The issues with the battery and storage do rankle somewhat, and do detract from an otherwise flawless performance from one of HTC's best phones out there. But they're more caveats on an otherwise top-end phone rather than reasons not to buy it, and placing it two price tiers below the HTC One is a great move indeed. So if you're looking for a cutting edge smartphone that takes all the great elements from the world's best handset and crams them into a smaller frame, you should really check out the HTC One Mini. We promise you won't be disappointed.

A great-looking phone with a fantastic screen and smooth operating system. An Android handset with few compromises

Conclusion The HTC One mini isn't as good as the HTC One. Its performance is decent but not spectacular, and the addition of a layer of plastic has removed some of the original's chic. But this is a very strong handset at a decent price. Well worth a look.

    • Excellent display

    Minus

    • Weak reception

ConclusionThe HTC One Mini has an attractive design and a great display, but an inflated on-contract price tag, less than stellar performance and poor reception make it very difficult to recommend.

    Plus

Good screen, decent build quality, good camera, mid-range price tag

    Minus

Average battery life, no NFC support

ConclusionThe HTC One Mini is a shrunk-down version of the Taiwanese firm's current flagship smartphone that sacrifices processing power and NFC support in its endeavour to become small-hand friendly.

Conclusion The HTC One mini brings a lot to the party. It looks good, it sounds good and it performs well enough on everyday tasks. It's a great mid-range device, with an experience that's very much the same as the larger HTC One. It might be a little slower, it might be a touch more limited, but it's still rather accomplished. At £379, it's not exactly bargain basement, undercut by some of its rivals, including some that are more powerful. But in return for your cash you get a handset that looks beautiful and feels beautiful and some would say that justifies the cost. There will be those that question why there's a drop down in specs. Why is the HTC One mini build as a mid-range device, rather than offering all the power of the larger model? There may be technical reasons, like physical space or heat dissipation. We suspect the real reason is that HTC felt the need to offer a more affordable device to widen the portfolio. The HTC One mini is a great Android smartphone. The design and built are outstanding, the user experience offered by HTC Sense 5 is commendable and the step back into mid-range specs isn't hugely to the phone's detriment. The HTC One is still the better device, but for those who want that experience in a smaller package, the HTC One mini delivers.
